Apple sets a new record by selling over 10 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in the first weekend of its launch. The Cupertino electronics major released the brand new iPhones in US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK and Hong Kong on Sep 19.
With whopping 10 million sales the new set of iPhones beat last year’s record of 9 million sales set by iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c. Although, this year’s first weekend sales doesn’t cover sales from across China as iPhone 6 and Plus were only available in Hong Kong. Next, Apple is planning to release the latest iPhones in 20 more countries on September 26 and would be expecting to multiply the 10 million figures in double.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said that “Sales for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus exceeded our expectations for the launch weekend, and we couldn’t be happier”.
“We would like to thank all of our customers for making this our best launch ever, shattering all previous sell-through records by a large margin. While our team managed the manufacturing ramp better than ever before, we could have sold many more iPhones with greater supply and we are working hard to fill orders as quickly as possible.” Cook added.
The all new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are the biggest change in Apple’s design and software ever since the arrival of first iPhone back in 2007. Apple finally gave their users experience of bug screen with 4.7 inch iPhone 6 and 5.5 inch phablet iPhone 6 Plus.
The small iPhone 6 16 GB model is available for $199 in US with 2 year contract while the big screen iPhone 6 Plus cost $299 with 2 year contract. While 16 GB unlocked iPhone 6 cost $649 and iPhone 6 Plus with the same internal memory will cost $749.
