BlackBerry’s plans of selling its business seem to be picking up pace as new report suggest that the sale of the Canadian mobile-maker would take place somewhere as early as November this year.
It’s nothing new that the former Research in Motion (RiM) has been struggling to gain its previous image and domination in the world mobile market after the ruthless performance from its competitors like, Apple and Samsung.
The company tried to revive its brand by renaming it to BlackBerry, launching the touch oriented mobile operating system (BlackBerry10) and announcing two new handsets – BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Q10. But, nothing could bring BlackBerry back to its earlier path of success as the flood of Android smartphones with new and exciting features washed away the plans of once reliable brand.
BlackBerry, last month, decided to put the ‘on sale’ board outside its headquarters and said that it is weighing options from a list of tech companies.
Earlier there were talks that Asian tech giants Lenovo or Huawei might be announced the winner in the upcoming auction, but the chances of it happening look almost bleak after observing the recent developments in the two companies.
Tech pundits are still wondering why any company would buy the ailing brand of BlackBerry and what will be the future moves after the buy over to gain profits. However, whoever buys it, the buyer will going to get some world class services like BlackBerry Messenger and BlackBerry Music with the company.
According to analysts, the company’s assets include like the messaging system worth $3 billion to $4.5 billion; a collection of patents that could be worth $2 billion to $3 billion; and $3.1 billion in cash and investments.
A Wall Street Journal report suggests that BlackBerry’s board has decided on a number of potential buyers to speed up its auction process, but the company has not said anything in this regard so far.
