Chinese mobile manufacturer Xiaomi is going to get a big boost for its global expansion dreams as the company has succeeded in one the top Google executives Hugo Barra to join it as its vice president for global business.
Hugo Barra was the vice president of product management for Google’s Android mobile operating system for three years and had been with the California-based search giant for more than five years.
Announcing his departure from Google and new career chapter with Xiaomi, Barra posted on his Google+ page, “In a few weeks, I’ll be joining the Xiaomi team in China to help them expand their incredible product portfolio and business globally — as Vice President, Xiaomi Global.”
Barra’s next statement made it clear that he is going to strengthen Xiaomi’s Android products and will look forward to expand the Chinese company’s reach in global market.
“I’m really looking forward to this new challenge, and am particularly excited about the opportunity to continue to help drive the Android ecosystem,” he added.
There are also reports that Barra’s reason behind joining Xiaomi is his break-up with his girlfriend in Google office who is now apparently seeing the company’s co-founder Surgey Bin.
However, Barra’s innings at Xiaomi is going to be something pretty interesting to follow because of Xiaomi’s growth and way of capturing the market.
In just three years of its life, the company has got a market value that is double of a company like BlackBerry that holds $5.5 billion as its market value. After its recent fundraising, Xiaomi is now valued at $10 billion with about 5 per cent hold of country’s smartphone market.
Xiaomi’s Mi 2S smartphone, which was released in April, was the most selling smartphone in China outselling Samsung’s Galaxy S4. And this is just the beginning as the company has a range of product to hit the mobile market real soon.
