Google is closing its social network Orkut on September 30 and if you have ever been a user on the site its about time to get Orkut backup to save your memories. It almost feels like yesterday when Orkut arrived in India and whola! Every teen and young adult was glued on the social network uploading pics, making anonymous friends, scrapping (post in Orkut lingo) friends and writing testimonials for them.
Sadly, Orkut never picked up the pace in developed country and after the arrival of Facebook it lost its ground in India as well. However, for a long time Google claimed Orkut to be second most popular network in India, Brazil and Latin American countries but finally the search giant is pulling plugs on Orkut to focus on “Google Plus” its global social network.
If are one thousands Orkut users who gradually switched to other more popular networks but still have some precious e-memories left on Orkut its time to save them. Here is how you can take Orkut backup and copy data such as photos, scraps, testimonials etc.
Google users can easily transfer their Orkut Data to Google Plus account but the relocation service will stop after Sep 30. So let’s first find out easy way to get your Orkut memories back.
Login to your Google account or directly open your Google + page.
- Now click on Orkut.com/albumexport to import your albums to Google Plus.
- Select the photos you want to import or click on select all.
- Your selected photos will now be visible in your Google + profile
Now if you want to save all your scarps, testimonials, private messages and pictures directly on your computer instead, Google is offering another convenient way “Google Takeout”.
- To save all your Orkut data in a zip file open Google Takeout and login into your account.
- It will ask you select a service for creating archive, browse and click on Orkut.
- Takeout will create an Archive of your Orkut profile and once its created you can download the data on your PC.
As per Google takeout service will be available until 2016 so if you haven’t got your Orkut backup until Sep 30, 2014 no worries, it’s not gone after all.
