One of the much awaited technology conferences of the year – the Google I/O – has finally started in San Francisco.
Google, every year, shows off its best upcoming products and services during the event; but this time the technology giant has much more to introduce as well as to offer.
As this year’s Google I/O was kicked off by the company’s vice-president Sundar Pichai who takes care of Android and Chrome, Pichai talked about a new concept called Android One Smartphone Program for developing countries.
Countries like India, have got enormous growth in the use of smartphones in last some years; however if we go by industry observers’ view, smartphone users in India don’t want to spend more than approximately $200.
In a scenario like this, Android One is going to come for Google’s rescue. Google is bringing India’s OEMs like Micromax, Karbonn and Spice under its fold to build good quality smartphones, but that’s not all. These devices will be getting Android updates at the same time when Nexus device and Google Play version of smartphones get. These devices will run on stock Android like Nexus and Google Play edition devices and the OEMs and service providers will have options to put in their local applications.
The best part of the Android One program is that Google is going to provide cheap and good quality smartphones with regular software updates. The Android One devices are going to be put under $100 price range so the smartphones become really affordable for people in India.
Google’s another target is to bring out a mobile operating system that supports 64-bit chip by the end of this year. So it can give a good competition to Apple who released its iPhone 5S with 64-bit A7 chipset.
The project is called Android L and offers Google’s new material design and faster performance as it supports 64-bit computing.
As Google and any of its OEMs don’t have any device that supports 64-bit computing but Samsung and Google both are looking forward to bring a device and the supporting Android L software by the end of this year.
The introduction of 64-bit chips will make the user experience completely different specially during game plays.
