In a short time the 140 word tweets on the micro blogging platform Twitter have become the voice of India. Over 10 million active Twitter users across the nation are not shy to tweet their feeling about things that affected them on Twitter in 2013.
Rishi Jaitly, The Indian Market Director of the micro blogging website has posted Twitter India’s highlights of the passing year in his blog. Mainly the people of India talked about politics, sports, bollywood, TV shows and global and local news.
“2013 was the year that cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar (@sachin_rt) said goodbye to the sport, Bollywood reached new box office heights, and the nation rallied around the people of Uttarakhand during a time of great need.” The blog post says.
However, sports primarily cricket emerged as the most talked about topics of the year. Hash tags like #thankyousachin #IndvsAus and #IPL were among the most use topics.

Popular television programs also became hot topic of discussion in the real time conversations as #bb7, #theperfactbachalor, #Nachfinale and #koffeewithkaran buzzed the tweeter world.
Twitter has not only emerged as a podium for news and debate but it has also emerged as a place where people come together to support the society. Thousands came together and sympathies with the people of Uttrakhand who became victims of natural calamity.
Celebrities who started tweeting from this year includes, Actor Anil Kapoor, Shridevi and Sports starts like Saina Nehwal and Sourav Ganguly. Great Indian establishments like Indian Army and ISRO also joined tweeter in 2013.
