iPhone’s kill switch seem to be quite a put off for gadget thief as the law and enforcement department in various country record a marginal different in theft cases. Apple introduced the “Activation Lock” as safety measure in its flagship iPhone 5S last year while Samsung and LG both introduced similar function in their recently launched high end models Galaxy S5 and LG G3.
According to a report in New York Times after the introduction of kill switch iPhone theft cases are dropped by 19% in New York while San Francisco has recorded 38% fewer cases than last year. Similarly the theft incident concerning iPhone saw a 24% decline in London.
The clear difference in number of theft cases clearly shows that Kill Switch has worked its magic to reduce the theft cases by a big difference in such a short period of time. It noticeable that Law and Enforcement officers were demanding the Kill Switch function for a long time and there wish fistly came true in iPhone 5s last year.
On the other hand the theft cases of Samsung devices saw hike of 51% in the same period says the report that quotes New York City Police Department. It’s noticeable that Samsung introduced Kill Switch in its latest model Galaxy S5 that became available in April 2014 while Apple released it in iPhone 5S in September last year. So although Samsung has pumped up the security in its flagship Law and Enforcement may not be able to see a noticeable difference right away.
After Apple now Google and Microsoft have confirmed that other upcoming smartphones which run of their operating software will feature Kill Switch Function.
