The new app is Google’s first ever product that is designed for young explorers to safely watch learning and entertaining videos on the world’s most popular video streaming app.
Google official announced the younger version of its streaming app in its blog post “Today, we’re introducing the YouTube Kids app, the first Google product built from the ground up with little ones in mind.”
Within hours of its launch on iOS App Store and Google Play the YouTube Kids App has already been download by thousands users and trending as best popular app. Here is a closer look at the kid friendly design and all the new safety features and parental control that the new app has to offer.
Bold Icons Playful Design:
Your preschooler might already have learnt his ways around YouTube by now but the new design has big size icons and voice search feature that comes handy for young kids who can’t type in search box. YouTube Kids is simple enough for young minds and smartly display popular kids cartoons and rhymes and trending videos for easy access.
Family Oriented Content:
The new App sure is designed for preschoolers but that doesn’t mean it has nothing to offer to other age groups. The YouTube Kids App lets users browse family friendly content of four different categories from Shows, Music, Learning and Explore.
As Google blog post reads “Along with favorites from DreamWorksTV, Jim Henson TV, Mother Goose Club, Talking Tom and Friends and more, your kids can watch new series from YouTube channels they already like. Discover new facts aboutdinosaurs from National Geographic Kids; learn about technology from Reading Rainbow; or watch Thomas the Tank Engine leave the world of Sodor for the first time in 70 years to travel the globe.”
Parental Control:
Although the original YouTube App has settings that allowed parents to block inappropriate content the new App puts control in parents hands like never before. The following features best describe the new parental control
Timer:
The famous feature that first made appearance in Amazon’s Kindle Fire is now part of YouTube Kids. Parents can set the time limit after which the app will shut off by itself. So now no need of timer friendly device or telling your kids several time that their screen time is over the new app does the job for you.
Sound & Search Controls:
Need some quite time ? the app also features sound setting that lets you shut background music and sound effect. While the search setting lets you set a bar as to what your kids should or shouldn’t be able to browse.
Password Protected Settings:
Often kids find their way into setting segment of apps and disturb standard settings but in YouTube Kids the app asks you to type a new 4 number password every time you log in. The numbers are spelled in words so that preschoolers can’t access it without help of elders.
The app is now available to download on iOS App Store and Google Play in US and soon it will also be available on kids friendly devices like Kurios and Nabi Kids.
