Nokia used to be the dominated player in cell phone market before Apple and Samsung took over. Although we still see some good smartphone’s from Nokia every now and then the company hasn’t been able to produce a revolutionary product in a while.
We had high hopes from previous Lumia models but they failed to stand tall against Apple, Samsung and HTC. Perhaps Nokia Lumia 920 will be the breakthrough the company has been waiting for. Powered by Windows 8 and designed to Nokia standard the phone Lumia 920 might change people’s perception about Nokia’s Smartphones.
Design & feel:
The first thing you would notice about the phone is its funky colored design which is still a rare sight in high end smartphones. The catchy colors are really appealing but once you pick up the phone you would know Nokia Lumia is definitely on the bulkier side. But the extra weight helps to make it feel sturdy in the hand. If you can get used to handling the 185 grams Lumia 920 there is a lot to explore and adore.
Sensitivity and Display:
The AMOLED display used in previous Lumia models was a good fit for the Windows phones but the new 4.5 inch IPS LCD display in Lumia 920 is a welcome change. However the change would have caused issues while display true black color but Nokia took care of the matter by installing Clear Black technology.
Along with Clear black technology the model has some really good additions like PureMotion HD + that makes Lumia 920’s screen come to life. The colors on this 768X1280 resolution screen look real and provide you best in class display. The touch screen is pretty sensitive too and works better than the previous Lumia models we have seen.
Operating System:
You have got to love windows phone if you are planning on buying Nokia Lumia 920. Of course, Windows 8 has many intuitive features that Windows 7 was lacking but apart from those it is pretty much the same software.
If you have been an Android or Apple fan you may have some difficulty adjusting to Windows phone. But once you get familiar with the functions Windows Operating System is as intuitive as iOS and Android.
Processor & memory:
Similar to other Windows 8 phones the Nokia Lumia 920 is powered by 1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcom processor. The powerful machine gives you quick response and smooth functioning. The phone comes with 1 GB RAM and 32 GB of storage memory. In simple words Nokia Lumia 920 has sufficient memory to store your favorite pictures and videos. Moreover the load of memory will help you play games and stream videos without slowing down.
Camera:
Nokia’s PureView camera technology was making headlines even before the phone was launched and we were excited to see it in action. On a large note the 8.7 megapixels camera of Nokia Lumia 920 is not much different that other high end smartphones camera out there.
One thing Nokia does better than many smartphones cameras is deliver clearer picture in low light. If you want to capture a memorable moment in your smartphone camera at night you can rely on Lumia 920’s camera. The picture quality may not be good enough for printing but you would be able to use it for digital use.
Battery:
Good battery lives have been issues in many groundbreaking smartphone but Nokia Lumia 920 seem to have handled this matter very well. One recharge a day might be enough for normal to heavy usage throughout the day.
Apps:
The Windows App store is one thing that holds back windows phone. The Windows App store is almost useless and boring. Very few apps that the store has are not up to date neither they are designed for every size of gadget. Microsoft needs to put a lot of work in its App store to attract Android and iPhone users who have access to various fantastic Apps in both Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play store.
Verdict:
Overall Nokia Lumia 920 is solid piece with amazing display and great camera and smart software and hardware support. If you can get pass the scarcity of apps and games it has a lot to offer. If you want to try something different and fresh Lumia 920 is the right phone for you. Starting Price of Lumia 920 is $659 but it can be bought at cheaper price with a contract.
