Around 22 Indian state government website got hacked by a group of Pakistan based hackers who openly claimed their involvement in the security breach on Facebook. After breaking into about 22 state department websites of Andra Pradesh, Telangana and Orrisa the hackers posted anti India videos related Kashmiris which they allege show atrocities of Army on locals.
According to a report on Times of India the hack was first noticed by a Telangana state department worker on Thursday who immediately reported the intrusion to Telangana Information Technology Association. The state information unit TITA confirmed the hack and traced that the cyber criminals belong to a gang called MadLeeTs.com.
The Facebook account of MadLeeTs confirmed the hack and two admins of the group named 1337 and Roox claimed the security breach of state websites. Although, the cyber criminals played the attack and anti India messages very lightly and claimed that it wasn’t in bad taste. “We are not asking for Kashmir. We ask for peace. Nothing deleted or stolen. Just here to deliver my message to the government and the people of India” reads the facebook message by MadLeets. The hacker signed off the message with a smiley and Pakistan Zindabad slogan.
While tension between two countries is building up on the border from time to time both are often caught in cyber war as well. Cyber attacks from across the border have become a common practice earlier this week 2 Gujarat state government websites were hacked as well. And that’s not all back in October over 100 state governments were defaced by Pakistani hackers to post anti India messages.
Last month the cyber war between two rivals got heated when an Indian hacker defaced Pakistani People’s Party website to mock Bilawal Butto’s provocative remarks on India and Kashmir. Although, unlike real border tensions the cyber war mostly turns out to be personal tussle and tick for tack attitude.
