The launch of new Samsung Galaxy S5 sent cheers in the Android fans camp as they have been waiting for months to see an Android that gives best fight to Apple’s iPhone 5S. But before Galaxy S5 came along Google launched a fierce competitor Nexus 5 to battle iPhone 5S in high tech market. All three smartphone have their strength and weakness and that’s what we will weigh here.
Body and Design:
Rumor world had us thinking that Samsung might be ready for a metal phone after all but that didn’t happen in Galaxy S5. Both Android smartphone look cheap compare to iPhone 5s if you compare the plastic body of Nexus 5 and Galaxy S5 with Apple’s latest sensation. But both Android have managed to put sturdy plastic materials which are also easy to grip and pretty in looks.
Display:
Galaxy S5 is the biggest smartphone among all three and wins over massive 4.95 inch true IPS display of Google Nexus 5 by a marginal difference of 0.6 inch. iPhone 5S is the smallest with 4 inch IPS display and Galaxy S5 look like a giant in-front of Apple’s latest entry.
Being the largest Galaxy S5 has the biggest 1920X1080p resolution display that gives 432 pixels density. iPhone 5S comes 1136X640p display that packs pixels density of 326ppi. Google’s nexus 5 has the same resolution as Galaxy 5 but due to its slightly smaller size it has better pixel density of 445 ppi.
Finger Scanner (Touch ID):
Most Samsung fans were ready to boo Apple when it launched touch ID in iPhone5S but Samsung knew it had to catch up. So the Korean giant installed a finger scanner in new flagship model Galaxy S5. Who did it better though? We have to go with Apple on this one because Galaxy S5’s home button needs to be activated before you can use the touch sensor but iPhone 5S skip this step.
Camera:
The rising megapixels in smartphone cameras are considered a big thing these days but while weighing the megapixels we often forgot to check the mechanism. A smartphone camera is always as good as the mechanism that stretches the given megapixels to its limits.
In numbers Galaxy S5 comes with 16 Mega Pixels primary camera and 2.1 MP front camera while its rival sport barely half the number 8 MP rear camera and 1.2 megapixels front to be exact. Google Nexus 5 has also played it smart with 8 MP primary and 1.3 MP secondary cameras.
In terms of putting the right camera hardware’s Google and Apple know their consumers and their 8 MP camera go a long way. All three smartphone sport LED flash where in Apple has offered dual LED True tone flash in iPhone 5S.
Power and Operating System:
The Android flagship models have the latest Android 4.4 KitKat installed while Apple’s iPhone 5S runs on the latest iOS 7. We can go on and on debating the two operating system but here we have other important things to discuss. Both High end Android sport 2 GB RAM with mighty processors. Galaxy S5 has powerful 2.5 GHz processor and Nexus packs second best 2.26 GHz Snapdragon 800.
On the other hand iPhone 5S has Apple’s latest A7 chip with 64 bit of architecture which is still exclusive to Apple. M7 motion co processor is also installed in the latest iPhone that has 1 GB of RAM.
Again the numbers may make Androids clear winner but when you get to test the power of iPhone 5S nothing come close. I would be fun to put Galaxy S5 to the power test with iPhone 5S and see if S5 has what it takes to beat this mean Apple machine. Comparing Nexus 5 to Apple and Samsung in this test would be rude as it will be teed behind iPhone 5S and Galaxy S5 in this the battle.
