It looks like the year 2015 is going to be the year of new mobile operating systems as Samsung releases its first Tizen based smartphone, Samsung Z1, in the Indian market.
The Samsung Z1 looks to be a prominent game-changer in the budget category of smartphones as the Korean company launches it for just Rs. 5,700.
The device is going to run on Tizen 2.3 operating system, which making its entry into the Indian smartphone market through this device. Samsung, to promote its new product, is giving you freebies like three month free access to Club Samsung where users can get music and other contents.
The Samsung Z1 comes with a 4-inch WVGA display like other budget device of Samsung. The smartphone is powered by a dual core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz. The internal storage is kept very low at just 4 GB but it can obviously be extended with a microSD card up till 32 GB.
The RAM is also kept very low at just 768 MB but the device doesn’t lag in performance as Tizen is very light operating system unlike Android.
The camera department of the Samsung Z1 is quite disappointing but for an entry-level smartphone a 3.1 megapixel primary camera couple with a VGA front shooter for selfie lovers can be justified.
The battery of the device is of 1500mAh and Samsung claims about 8 hours of talk-time out of it.
Samsung is trying its Linux-based operating system Tizen for its smartphones with an aim of reducing its dependency Google’s Android. The Korean company has already released its smartwatch Gear S which runs on Tizen.
Tizen is not only limited to just smartphones or smart devices. The OS covers TVs as well. Samsung released its first Tizen based smart television during this year’s Consumer Electronics Show this month in Las Vegas.
However, when it comes to Tizen for smartphones, Samsung has a long leap to make as the software is going to battle it out with Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS in order to gain make its way to users’ pockets.
Lack of app for the Tizen app store can be the biggest concern for Samsung as developers have not been too keep on developing their applications for Tizen. The fear of Tizen sharing the fate of BlackBerry 10 cannot be undermined.
