After years of talking, speculations and rumors, Samsung has finally unveiled the first smartphone with a curved display. Samsung Galaxy Round has been shown to the world by the Korean tech giant and its rivals like Apple Inc, LG Electronics and HTC now find themselves a step behind Samsung.
The Galaxy Round comes with a horizontally curved 5.7 inch full HD Super AMOLED screen with 1080 pixel resolution and looks like a curved version of Galaxy Note 3.
However, the grip of the Galaxy Round will be more proper than the Galaxy Note 3 because of the curve.
The device will only be available in South Korean market on exclusive contract with country’s largest carrier SK Telecom. Samsung fans in India, US and other parts of the world should not lose their heart as Samsung will never be able to keep itself away from the world market and launch a device with the curved display pretty soon.
The Galaxy Round is powered by Samsung’s own Exynos quad-core processor clocked at 2.3 GHz and supported by a 3GB or RAM. The device is going to run Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out of the box just like the Galaxy Note 3.
Its key features include a tilt function which allows users to check information such as missed calls and battery life, even when the home screen is off. Users can also scroll through media files by pressing the screen’s right or left, the company said.
When it comes to camera, the Galaxy Round follows the footsteps of the Galaxy Note 3 and features a 13 megapixel rear-facing camera with an LED light. For video chat purpose, Samsung has put a 2 megapixel front-facing camera in the Galaxy Round.
In the power department, Galaxy Round is not going to come with a big battery like of Galaxy Note 3. The Galaxy Round is going to have 2800 mAh battery whereas the Galaxy Note 3 comes with a 3200 mAh battery.
Samsung was expected to launch the model with a curved battery but the development of such batteries is going to take time and the company was really not in a position of waiting to launch the phone with curved display.
The launch of Samsung Galaxy Round seems to be a hurried affair as the company didn’t want the credit of first smartphone with curved display to go to its rival LG Electronics.
According to company sources, LG Electronics is planning to launch a smartphone with vertically curved display in the first week of November.
