The boring mid range Smartphone section got a splash of freshness as Sony has peddled a new water proof model Xperia M2 Aqua in the affordable market. With this new affordable device Sony is probably giving a sneak peak to its upcoming high profile safety features in company’s next flagship Smartphone.
Although, the Smartphone has almost similar specs as Xperia M2 its exceptional dust and water resistant feature make it a unique choice in midrange segment. As per Sony the Smartphone can survive about 30 min in 1.5 meters of water and has IP65/IP68 rating which makes it one of the highest rated water/dust resistant Smartphone.
The most attractive feature of Xperia M2 Aqua is its specially designed camera that allows you to do underwater photography thanks to Aqua’s water resistance design. The Smartphone boast 8 megapixels rear facing camera along with VGA front facing camera. Standard Sony Camera features such as Exmore for mobile image sensor, HDR and auto focus have also made it to this mid range model.
Other spec category remain almost same as Xperia M2 as the Aqua version also sport similar 4.8 inch display of 540X960 qHD. The Smartphone packs 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor combined with 1 GB RAM and 8 GB internal memory. A micro SD slot allows memory extension of up to 32 GB.
The smartphone comes with 2330 mAh battery that promises continuous 8 hours of HD video and up to 7 hours of music usage. Xperia M2 Aqua also comes with battery stamina mode that offers extended standby and extended usage options to make most of low battery situations.
Sony is planning to launch Xperia M2 Aqua in selected markets like Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific by September 2014. Although, the Japanese major has not announced price of the smartphone yet, it is expected to be in the Rs 22-25,000 neighborhood in India.
