Sony has been struggling to compete with the smartphone biggies Like Apple and Samsung to bag his share in this rapidly increasing market. While Sony’s previous high end mobile entries looked promising they failed to set a benchmark. But perhaps Sony Xperia Z will change the way people look at Sony’s smartphones. Its solid body and excellent display along with intelligent softwares makes it a fierce competitor in the high end market. But the real question remains, does it stand a chance to iPhone 5, Samsung S4 and HTC Butterfly? Let’s find out.
Built and Design:
Its eye catching front and overall industrial design is the first thing that catches your eye. But it’s Sony Xperia Z’s water and dust resistance firm body that amaze us the most. The phone does not look cheap from any angle the little amount of plastic that has been used in design looks top notch quality.
There is no outside hardware control but you may nr miss those as most functions could be find with just a tap on the main screen. Precisely it has a no non sense design and undoubtedly the makers of Xperia Z have put a lot of thought while designing its body. Although, one design flaw that we have noticed is its thermal control ability. The device gets unusually hot with normal usage which is not what we expect fom a high end smartphone.
Display:
The most talked about part of this groundbreaking phone is its captivating 1920X1080 pixels display that exhibit high quality pictures and videos. Thanks to its high quality display you never lose fine details while watching a movie or playing a game on this smartphone. Sony’s Bravia technology which helps to enhance the color quality of videos and photos will make the multimedia experience even better.
Camera:
A good camera has always been a strong point of Sony’s smartphones but with its 13 MPs Exmore RA rear camera the company has taken things to another level. The phone has borrowed a lot of good features from Sony’s popular camera softwares to give you a better camera experience. Apart from some basic camera features it also sport picture effect mode, sweep panorama mode and scene selection mode. Overall the camera produces good pictures in bright but we often see grainy picture with little fluctuation of light. Moreover, despite its LED flash low light pictures are dull and hazy. Another compliment in the phone is its front facing camera which is perfect for video chatting.
Softwares:
Like most high end Smartphones Xperia Z uses the second latest android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 as its brain. While the company promise to upgrade it to 4.2 very soon. But we have seen many android phones performing their best with Jelly Bean 4.1.2 so this should be an issue. The software delivers a great user experience by providing smooth functioning.
Processor/Battery:
This loaded machine runs on a powerful 1.5 GHz quad core processor which takes care of its smooth functioning while running its software and apps. Xperia Z comes with 2 GB of RAM and an Adhreno 320 chip that supports its Multimedia needs. The provided SD card is filled with 16 GB of memory which can be expanded for up to 64 GB.
Verdict:
Sony has finally got a breakthrough with its revolutionary model Xperia Z. Apart from some minor flaws Xperia z is the Monalisa of smartphones that is going to inspire a lot of smartphones in the future. Sony has put its best foot forward with its stunning Xpreria Z but it is yet to see if Sony can keep up the good work.
