The year 2013 is almost passing away and it will be remember for the technology innovations that rocked the world but there is a list of gadget failures that were a part of the year. Top gadgets like new touch ID iPhone 5s from Apple and Samsung’s Galaxy Gear Smartwatch, not to forget Google’s debutant Moto X and Sony’s smartphone compatible lens cameras made 2013 a year to remember. Ironically, 2013 also witnessed gadgets that promised a lot but fall flat on performance. Here we bring you the list of top 5 failures of this year
HTC First AKA “The Facebook Phone”
This low budget android phone from HTC made a lot of promises with its Facebook home feature that would set your Facebook account as your home screen. The smartphone has mediocre feature with non removal battery and no SD card for expandable memory. Although HTC planned quite a campaign for its startup model it just could meet the need of buyers who are looking for max for their bucks. If we can call HTC’s flagship models HTC One the greatest model from the company HTC First got to have the worst model title.
Blackberry Z 10:
Once considered a leader in mobile phones blackberry just could catch with the smartphone boom that started after 2007. It took blackberry almost half decade to come up with a smartphone that compete with the top notch smartphone. But the effort was too little and too late and failed to make an impact in the already crowded smartphone market. Blackberry Z 10 was launched for the price close to other flagship models from Apple, Samsung and Sony but the company slashed its price various times to sell it manufactured unit.
Surface RT:
The software giant Microsoft attempted to enter the hardware market with its light Surface RT laptop that also works as a tablet. Unfortunately, Microsoft didn’t do much home work on its new operating system Windows 8 that runs this machine. First, Microsoft scared its loyal users with completely new OS and secondly and more importantly it lacked access to basic social network apps like facebook and twitter. Although the company gradually provided access to social networks and many others apps it was too late to grab customer.
Nook (Barns and Noble):
In another attempt to produce a product against rival Amazon’s “Kindle Fire” Barns and Nobel came up with new Nook HD. The almost a century old book retail company now could be called the BlackBerry of book retail. It’s trying hard to keep up with changing trend and book reader “Nook” was their first attempt to catch the recent phenomenon. Despite its powerful processor and high resolution screen, poor collection of apps and games really hurt the sales of Nook which lost pace in the race of popular book readers.
First Google Chromebook:
The wildest and weirdest idea from Google ohh wait we forgot to mention one more and the most correct adjective the costliest too. The Google laptop that practically runs on Google’s web based apps received applause from critics but with no windows and whopping $1300 price point it was just too much too digest for laptop lovers. But Google seem to have learnt the lesson as it quickly switched to budget Chroombook manufactured by other hardware majors like HP and Acer.
