Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) looks to be all set to launch its new iPhone in less than two weeks, but before the big media event takes place, the Cupertino-based iDevices maker should pay its attention to some data.
The Web usage share of Appple’s mobile devices like iPhones, iPads, and iPods has gone down by about 11 percentage points since last August. According to a new study released by NetApplications on Sunday, iOS’s web usage share recorded a dip of 16.7 percent, which is an all time low of Apple’s mobile operating system.
iOS’ web usage share was at 65.94 per cent last August, and from that point of time, the share started seeing constant fall which brought it to 54.91 per cent in February this year. Though, iOS was way ahead of its biggest rival, Android, at that time with a difference of 43 percentage points. However with in a year the difference came down to just above 26 percentage points, thanks to the falling share of iOS and the improvement shown by Android device’s web usage.
In August last year, Android was holding 20.93 per cent of the web usage share that went up to 27.35 per cent in just two months. After October, the Google mobile operating system shown complete consistency and kept the figures almost constant before reaching to 28.12 per cent in August this year.
As Apple CEO, Tim Cook take personal interest in NetApplications’ studies and the data of web usage, it is expected that iOS’ performance in terms of web usage will go up after the release of the upcoming iPhone.
