Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi had a wonderful year in 2014 with the success of its Redmi 1S smartphone, and now the company has announced Redmi 2 to make this New Year more exciting.
Xiaomi launched the Redmi 2 in China for CNY 699 which is about a little over Rs 6,000. The device is going to be available in China from January 9. There is no official word about Redmi 2’s availability in the global market but Indian users can expect the successor of Redmi 1S by first quarter of 2015.
Redmi 2 is going to come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor which is clocked at 1.2 GHz. The screen of the smartphone is not going to be much different from its predecessor. The 4.7 inch display is a 720 pixel IPS unit with 312PPI pixel density.
The storage is limited to 8 GB built-in but it can be expanded with the help of a microSD card up to 32 GB. The RAM is of 1 GB which looks enough to make the devices performance smooth. As far as graphics are concerned Adreno 360 GPU is going to take care of that department.
The primary camera has been kept untouched from Redmi 1S and the Redmi 2 is going to have same 8 megapixel primary camera with 1080 p video. The front camera is going to be of 2 megapixel which is a slight upgrade from Redmi 1S’ 1.6 megapixel.
The smartphone will support dual-SIM 4G LTE connectivity and come with five different colour versions. Xiaomi has chosen some vibrant colours to make this device look funky and trendier. The Redmi 2 is going to be available in Yellow, Pink, Green, White and Black colour options.
The power department is being taken care by 2200 mAh battery which is again better than Redmi 1S’ 2000 mAh battery. The Redmi 2 is going to run Xiaomi’s customised MiUI 6 operating system which is based on Google’s Android 4.4 KitKat.
Xiaomi Redmi 2 is going to face Micromax Yu Yureka in the Indian market as both the devices are going to fall in the same budget category.
