Microsoft confirmed a deadly vulnerability found in various versions of its web browser Internet Explorer that allow hackers to steal your data and spread malware attack. Since almost a quarter web users use some version of Internet Explorer the vulnerability could hit millions of online users.
According to a post on Microsoft’s security advisory most versions of its internet browser have the vulnerability that could allow remote code execution.
“Microsoft is aware of limited, targeted attacks that attempt to exploit a vulnerability in Internet Explorer 6, Internet Explorer 7, Internet Explorer 8, Internet Explorer 9, Internet Explorer 10, and Internet Explorer 11. “
Microsoft further explain who this vulnerability in most versions of Internet Explorer can allow a hacker to access deleted items and convince users to clink on fake websites and link that may appear very genuine.
“The vulnerability is remote code execution vulnerability. The vulnerability exists in the way that Internet Explorer accesses an object in memory that has been deleted or has not been properly allocated.
The vulnerability may corrupt memory in a way that could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code in the context of the current user within Internet Explorer. An attacker could host a specially crafted website that is designed to exploit this vulnerability through Internet Explorer and then convince a user to view the website.” Microsoft Security Advisory stated in a post.
Microsoft is working on the fix and promises to get it solve in the next due monthly security update. While most Windows users will soon receive the security update most Windows XP users will remain vulnerable as Windows officially ended support to its decade old software few weeks ago.
If you use Internet Explorer to browse the net it would be a good idea to switch to a different browser like Google Chrome or Firefox Mozilla until Microsoft come up with a fix.
