Making a difference by donating money to charity just got simpler with new Facebook donate button that lets you contribute to non profits from your FB account. The world’s biggest social media network announced this initiative on December 15 to inspire people to donate money and encourage their friends to help the needy.
“The Donate feature will appear beside Posts in News Feed shared by participating nonprofits and at the top of their Facebook Pages. When people click “Donate Now” they can choose the amount, enter their payment information, and immediately donate to that cause.” Facebook announced on its newsroom page.
“They also have the option to share the nonprofit’s post with their friends. We hope this will help increase donations as people encourage their friends to donate to the causes that are important to them.” explained the newsletter.
However, one will have to enter his/her credit or debit card information to make a payment to their favorite charity. The information will be saved by Facebook in order to be used for further donations.
Last month when the deadly typhoon Haiyan shattered lives of millions in Philippines Facebook partnered with Non Profit Organization Red Cross to help Typhoon victims. The initiative inspired many Facebook users to donate money to affected people in Philippines which moved the social media giant to invent the Donate Button.
“Donate also gives nonprofits an easier way to reach out and ask for help, both to support their everyday mission and in the wake of major disasters.”Explained Facebook as it described how donate feature will work.
The social media company has partnered with few non-profit organizations to start this new feature but soon the company will be adding many more local and global charities to it.
If you want to add your favorite charity for donations the social media requires you to fill up a simple Donation interest form for background check.
The donate button is already working for many popular charities including Unicef, American Red Cross, Water.org and girls inc. You can visit Facebook page of these charities and click on the donate button to contribute to these non profits.
