Microsoft makes a surprisingly bold move to provide its premium Microsoft Office tools Word, Excel and Power Point for free on iPads, iPhones and Androids. The move might come as a shock for many but Microsoft has its set reasoning to make the big screen favorite a popular choice on the small screen as well. iOS users can download the new Office app from App Store and same goes for Android mobile users while Android tablet owners can only the check preview right now.
Moreover, the new office app not only provides all the features of the premium office for mobile application but take things up the notch with additional features. The upgraded apps are optimized for different screen size devices so they feel seamless on both tablets and smartphones. Now the Apps are universal so you can download it on your smartphone and also use it on your tablets and vice a versa.
The office freemium move comes within days of Microsoft joining hands with Dropbox to amalgamate cloud storage and Office tools for greater user experience.
However, the free Microsoft Office tool has its restrictions while you will be able to read and edit documents in the free app the editing segment has its limits. Apparently, having these free office tools on your mobile is not similar to using them on your Windows laptop. For example you can read and edit a word document but cannot change its format from landscape to portrait and vise a versa; a premium membership is required for changing the font shape and size.
