Rumours about Google’s plans of bringing out something big in the first quarter of this year were fueling the tech news domain for a very long time. Finally, Google has brought out what we can call really big and exciting in today’s world.
Google extended its mobile operating system, Andorid, to a new level where the firmware can be used in upcoming wearables. The new operating system is called Google Wear, and it going to debut on smart watches.
“Today we’re announcing Android Wear, a project that extends Android to wearables. And we’re starting with the most familiar wearable—watches,” Google announced on it official blog.
Obviously, Google Glass is going to run Android only. But Google is planning to use Google Wear mostly for smart watches but the firmware will also power bands, rings and fitness devices.
The Android Wear is going to bring most of the Google Now features such as voice control and notifications to the watch you will be wearing.
Smart watches like Pebble and Samsung’s Galaxy Gear are already available in the market, but what will make Android Wear-powered watches more exciting is that they won’t be limited to certain apps or used as a combination device of a particular brand or flagship.
Android Wear-powered watches will show you info and suggestions you need, right when you need them. The wide variety of Android applications will deliver the latest posts and updates from your favorite social apps, chats from your preferred messaging apps, notifications from shopping, news and photography apps, and more.
The personal assistance is going to be taken care by Android Wear when you just say “Ok Google”. By say just these two words you can carry on with your searches, send a text or set an alarm.
Android Wear is going to work with your fitness apps and will give you your fitness summary with real-time speed, distance and time information on your wrist for your run, cycle or walk.
As it is going to be your own Android world, Android Wear will also extend your reach to other Android devices and the control will be just in your wrist. Just say “Ok Google” to fire up a music playlist on your phone, or cast your favorite movie to your TV.
Google has already release a developers version of the firmware that can be previewed after signing up with Google as a developer.
