Famous carmaker Honda had promised its fans earlier this year that its upcoming models will be equipped with Apple Inc’s new and innovative hands free communication system called Siri Eyes Free. But Honda didn’t say anything after the announcement for the entire year and now as the year is coming to an end; the Japanese car manufacturer’s American wing has put more light on the plan.
According to a new press release from Honda America, company’s three upcoming models will come with Siri Eyes Free as an inbuilt communication system.
“Honda recognizes the power of Siri Eyes Free to meet connectivity and convenience needs of its customers in a responsible manner,” said Art St. Cyr, vice president of product planning and logistics, American Honda. “With technology becoming further integrated into people’s lives, we are happy to provide next-generation connectivity and meet our customer’s ever-changing needs.”
The feature is going to be available in 2013-14 models of Honda Accord and the 2013 models of Acura RDX and ILX.
Owners can direct Siri to perform a number of specific tasks while they keep their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel. Using Eyes Free mode, Siri takes hands-free functionality even further and helps minimize distractions by keeping an iOS device’s screen lighting up.
Additional functionality includes:
Sending text messages and e-mails
Reading incoming text messages and emails
Setting up calendar entries, reminders, and alarms
Checking the weather
Turn-by-turn voice navigation (when the audio system is set to Bluetooth® Audio or iPod mode)
Sports scores and stock quotes
We are not sure about the word coming from close circles of Honda, but there is a wind that suggests the arrival of Siri Eyes Free integration in the upcoming 2014 Civic models too.
Additional Siri Eyes Free functionality available on Honda vehicles will be revealed on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 featuring Honda connected car experts on Honda’s Google Plus page.
