YouTube Gaming, the live streaming gaming service that Google has been beta testing for couple of months go live today. The new gaming app is Google’s answer to Amazon acquired popular service ‘Twitch’ that the web giant failed to buy, back in 2014.
Amazon snatched “Twitch” from right under Google’s nose and increased its viewer base from 45 million to 100 million within few months. Google on the other hand, worked with its existing video streaming service and announced beta version of gaming oriented live streaming service ‘ YouTube Gaming ’ in June 2015.
“ YouTube Gaming is built to be all about your favorite games and gamers, with more videos than anywhere else. From “Asteroids” to “Zelda,” more than 25,000 games will each have their own page, a single place for all the best videos and live streams about that title.”
In Short, YouTube Gaming is a 24 hour live channel for gamers that hosts everything from talk shows to e-gaming tournaments. Users can select and play games, watch videos and live streaming, engage- interact with other gamers or watch live shows and events about gaming.
The new Google gaming service has gathered sizable number of fans and launched top gaming channels during beta testing period but that’s just a baby step towards matching Twitch’s service. The Amazon owned live gaming app is already integrated with most popular gaming devices “PlayStation” and Xbox One and have app on all popular mobile platform.
Of course, Google has also launched ‘ YouTube Gaming ’ app for iOS and Android and it also works with the Sony app. Additionally, Google is in route to make its gaming service a part of latest Samsung devices and we are yet to see how it plays out. Certainly, YouTube Gaming is a bold step by Google, but will it be able to push Amazon’s Twitch on shaky grounds? we will have to wait and watch.
