It looks like we can finally say that we are living in smart age as things around us are getting smarter pretty quickly. From smartphone to smartwatch to smart-home appliances, things we use on daily basis are getting a twist of technology to make our life easier. The latest to join the list is your travel buddy – the luggage.
Technology giant Samsung and the leading baggage manufacturer Samsonite have come together to create a luggage that will be smart enough to auto check-in at world’s major airports and send its location details to its owner.
It’s not like this product from Samsung and Samsonite is going to be the first smart luggage as a startup called Bluesmart Technologies has already created and started shipping world’s first smart suitcase in a crowd funding venture launched on Indiegogo.
The Bluesmart Carry-on suitcase is equipped with a digital lock, digital weighing scale, GPS location tracker, an inbuilt battery charger, trip data tracker and a special front compartment for your laptop and tab for an easy access at the airport security check.
Bluesmart has already sold over 7,000 units of its Carry-on suitcase and the orders are just not stopping for the company.
However, with market leaders like Samsung and Samsonite coming together for a product it’s not going to be an easy ride for Bluesmart.
The new smart luggage form the joint venture is supposed to alert its owner on the smartphone or the smartwatch about its unloading from the aircraft and arrival on the carousel so you don’t wait in the queue for long time.
The companies are in talks with major airlines so you will not have to wait in the check-in lines for hours to get these smart bags weighed and checked-in.
